Marathi Moggu is a type of caper. These are dried unopened flower buds of the Silk Cotton tree. It has a similar appearance as cloves. The word ‘moggu’ literally translates to bud. Generally marathi moggu is roasted and ground along with other spices in many spice blends.

Kapok Buds, also known as Marathi Moggu has a fragrant taste and is fried in oil to release its full flavour. It is used to prepare South India specialty rice dishes in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh such as Bisi bele bath. The fragrance is very spicy, strong and distinct.
